UAE – The Market Slows

The rather slow summer in the recruitment market in Q2 continued into Q3 with the result of a rather disappointing fall of six per cent in the number of jobs available, according to the Morgan McKinley UAE Quarterly Employment Monitor for Q3 2015.

The end of Ramadan and the Eid celebrations in July undoubtedly had an impact as Morgan McKinley noted a bounce back in recruitment at the end of September, which is not reflected in the headline figures.

In addition tourist figures and hotel occupancy rates were lower than expected this summer, which may have been a further contributory factor in the drop not only in the quarter-to-quarter comparison but also the five per cent fall in vacancies compared with the third quarter of 2014. This has inevitably had an impact on airline, tourism and hospitality sectors.
