Newcastle under Lyme College, a highly successful further education college based in Staffordshire, has selected the Vacancy Filler Recruitment Software online platform to assist with recruitment for its growing campus. With around 3,800 full-time students and some 350 students on higher education programmes as well as over 2,600 part-time or adult learners and 1,400 apprentices, hiring of teaching and other staff is an ongoing and crucial activity for the college.
The college has only a small HR team and needed to find a way to cut down on laborious administration involved in recruitment and to find time and cost savings.
Jon Downing, HR Performance and Improvement Advisor at Newcastle under Lyme College, said,
“We chose Vacancy Filler as a result of its rapid implementation model that allowed the college to be able to use the software in just a couple of days, with additional functionality being live in less than a few weeks. This implementation model allowed Vacancy Filler to price out the competition, but also provide a more customised solution to fit the product to our exact needs.”
Jon spent time with another education customer of Vacancy Filler before adopting the system. He commented,
“Seeing how the software worked so well in an FE environment was great and really swayed my decision. Vacancy Filler is a very tidy system and our current processes fit perfectly with it”.
He continued, “The biggest area of ROI for us is with the shortlisting packs. They’re pretty much obsolete now, everything is done digitally through the system – this is a massive time saver for us. The added benefit to this is the saving in resources that we are making, we run an almost paperless recruitment process which means we are much greener than before.”
He added, “The reporting function has given the college complete transparency at any stage in the process of the recruitment activity, resulting in a better managed and more controlled hiring process. The flagging system helps create clarity around the reports and the time it saves is absolutely brilliant.”
Jon also found that searching for candidates has been made a simple task. He said,
“It’s not only easy to find a candidate within the system, but you can also very quickly find the details about the candidate, such as why they were rejected for the position should you ever be questioned about it.”
