Over half (54 per cent) of employers who took part in the Oxfordshire Business Barometer over the summer said that finding people with the right skills is their greatest employment challenge. This is in-line with results from a national survey which suggested that 58 per cent of UK businesses are experiencing the same challenge.

There is little doubt that employers are facing some tough times when it comes to attracting top talent. Here are five reasons why you might be missing out, and some practical advice which you may find helpful.

1). Your interview process is too long

Candidates are in demand, and while you’re busy trying to coordinate diaries to fit in a second interview with a star applicant, the likelihood is that they’ve been snapped up elsewhere. When you’re recruiting, decide from the offset who will be involved in each stage of the interview, set aside dedicated interviewing days and stick to them.
