A Third of Workers Admit to Doing a U-turn After Accepting a Job Offer

60% of hiring managers for SMEs have offered a candidate a role in the last two years that was later declined, and a third (34%) of UK workers have changed their mind in the last two years after accepting a job offer, choosing not to go ahead with the new role.

Research from Office Angels, analysing the effectiveness of recruitment processes in a booming post-recession economy, found that nearly half (48%) of workers have received multiple job offers at the same time in the last 24 months. At the point of resignation, a similar number (50%) received a counter offer from their existing employer.

Office Angels has observed these trends in the current jobs market – whilst a growing economy has resulted in more job vacancies, increased demand for talent has led to many industries becoming ‘candidate-short’. The agency reported that the impact is that hiring managers have to act fast if they are to secure top talent ahead of their competitors.
