Birmingham Firm Sigma Steps Up Growth Plans Through Senior Appointment

A Birmingham-based business outsourcing provider has appointed a director who will lead its new consultancy division targeted at the utilities sector.

The Sigma Financial Group, which has contact centres in the city’s Priory Queensway and in Redditch, has appointed respected industry specialist Ian Parry as its new director of energy and water services.

The new senior leadership role will see the 43 year-old utilities sector expert forming a new consultancy division within Sigma, a move which aims to help Sigma’s clients in the energy and water sectors to address key issues and improve interaction with customers in areas such as complaint handling and new products.

Gary Gilburd, Sigma’s chief executive officer said:

“First and foremost, Ian has first-class credentials in the utilities sector and has extensive experience in helping and advising businesses to overcome complex operational issues.

“He is the perfect person to lead this new, exciting division during what is a strong period of growth for us. His new role is all about supporting our clients to perform better, identifying improvement opportunities, and ultimately, helping them to drive down the number of complaints and improve customer retention.

“Overall, our new consultancy business is going to be vital for us moving forward. It adds an extra layer of expertise and support we’re able to provide clients who want fast and effective improvements.”

Ian Parry added:

“To join Sigma is a fantastic opportunity. The new consultancy side of the business is all about delivering real improvements for clients. I want to use my experience in both the water and energy sectors to make clients more match-fit when it comes to a whole of host of areas including debt management and reducing complaints.

“Sigma isn’t an obvious choice for consultancy advice but our new division will change that. It’s a game-changer. We have a talented team with a wealth of experience who can’t wait to get going.”

Mr Parry has worked in the utilities industry since the early 90s and has previously held leadership and consultancy roles with British Gas, Experian and First Utility. He also played a key role in Pure Planet’s entry into the UK energy sector where he also led on the collections, credit risk and regulatory side.

Part of the South African-based Digicall Group, which acquired the West Midlands-headquartered firm in 2016, Sigma’s clients include major blue chip organisations from the utilities, financial services, retail and telecommunications industries.

The company, which was formed by Mr Gilburd and chief operating officer Mike Harfield in 2011, has recently been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories at the prestigious 2018 Utilities & Telecoms Awards.

It has over 500 staff in its contact centres in Birmingham and Redditch.
