Brightwork, the Glasgow, Edinburgh and Elgin-based recruitment agency, has partnered with UK-wide charity, Career Ready, provided three Glasgow secondary school students with invaluable experience of the world of recruitment and office work.
Agata Krupcznska, project manager at Brightwork said:
“Meera, Abbie and John all worked hard throughout their four weeks with us to accumulate as much experience as they could. All three contributed significantly to the running of our operations and I look forward to hearing about all three of them going on to fulfilling careers.”
Meera Singh, 17, who recently left Govan High School said:
“My mentor works at Brightwork, so I knew I’d be welcome there. I was involved in the interview process and in screening and formatting CVs.
“I enjoyed very much meeting new people from different backgrounds and trying to help them on the telephone. It raised my confidence level and I would 100 per cent recommend the experience of working at Brightwork and, more generally, within the recruitment sector.”
Hyndland Secondary School student, Abbie Warren, 16, enjoyed the work environment and especially also, making some money.
“Brightwork gave me experience in answering the telephone, scanning files and CVs, and speaking to job candidates. The experience has also lifted my confidence and I would recommend both Brightwork and the intern programme to everyone.”
John MacInnes, 17, who attends Holyrood Secondary School and plans to apply to university, said his experience had made him consider the recruitment industry as a career option. As well as honing his interviewing skills, his time at Brightwork gave him experience in data entry and assisting with re-branding.
“I would definitely recommend this work experience programme to others.”
Jasmine Dey, MCR Pathways Coordinator and Career Ready School Coordinator for Govan High said:
“There is no substitute for giving young people a real taste of how office life works than by immersing them in it for a period. The team at Brightwork has done a first-class job of preparing these three young people to be office-ready when they make their move into the workforce.”
Career Ready’s Glasgow Regional Manager, Janine McFarland, said:
“Brightwork’s efforts to make more young people ready for the world of work is already showing dividends. This is the second occasion on which we have worked successfully together, and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many successful years to come.”
Brightwork has previously set out its commitment to a policy of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for which it has won multiple awards, including UK’s Most Recognised Socially Responsible Recruitment Agency and Best CSR Awards from Recruitment International.
