CV-Library’s Lee Biggins Named Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of the UK’s leading independent job site, CV-Library, has been named a regional finalist in the running for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Now celebrating its 30th year, the EY awards programme recognises entrepreneurs around the world who demonstrate business excellence and extraordinary success.

Biggins has always been an independent thinker, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age and launching CV-Library as a response to his own frustrating job search experience. Now the sole owner of the UK’s leading independent job site, which holds the largest CV database in the country with over 10 million CVs, Biggins continues to harness his entrepreneurial spirit by consistently growing and expanding the business.

The first of its kind, CV-Library is a platform that connects the UK’s leading recruiters and employers with the biggest pool of talented candidates in the nation. The company implements the most innovative approaches to ensure that both candidates and recruiters can adopt new technologies, from developing the industry’s first mobile app to integrating social media into the recruitment process.

Today the business is experiencing a period of rapid growth, having opened two regional offices in the first four months of 2016, with a third to follow in the summer. The nomination is a nod to what has been a very successful year for CV-Library, which has reported a record number of web traffic, job applications and job vacancies on the website in 2016 alone.

Biggins comments:

“It’s extremely humbling to be named a finalist alongside such a prestigious list of entrepreneurs, but all of my achievements should be attributed to the team behind CV-Library who have helped me grow the business into the success it is today. CV-Library was launched at a pivotal moment in the industry and the team truly pioneered internet recruitment, creating the first-ever online platform that connected job hunters and recruiters. It’s this innovation that carries through to everything we do at CV-Library, and it empowers the business to continue advancing the recruitment process, giving our candidates the best possible job search experience, and providing our clients with a seamless recruitment tool.”

This is the second nomination for Lee Biggins, who was named a regional finalist for EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2014.

CV-Library is one of the UK’s largest online job sites, with the UK’s biggest database of over 12m CVs. The company was founded in 2000 as a response to Lee’s identification of a market niche. As a young carpet fitter at the time struggling to find work, Lee saw a need for an easy-to-use job board benefiting both job hunters and recruiters. With a £9k loan and help from a web developer, the CV-Library website was built. Lee’s raw passion and hands-on marketing strategies lifted the business off the ground and it is this that continues to push his company to new heights.

The business is now one of the fastest growing websites in the country. The team is expanding rapidly, now employing over 200 staff. It has also launched sister website, Resume Library, in the US, where the company is set to expand and take the brand global over the coming years. Lee puts the reason for his success down to working incredibly hard, loving what he does and a strong desire to make the business the best it can be.

Lee has received over 50 awards and accolades to date and was last year recognised as Entrepreneur of the Year. In April 2015 CV-Library was also ranked as number 49 in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100.
