In a bid to become one of the most digitally advanced NHS Trusts in England, Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is boosting its Digital team by recruiting a Deputy Chief Digital and Information Officer; Head of ICT and Head of Digital Programmes to work across the hospital’s digital portfolio, delivering services that improve patient care and enable staff to provide the best possible services.
The hospital is currently undergoing a major digital transformation and moving away from paper based to digital systems, so this is a key time for people to become part of the team. The Trust is one of the first Trusts in England to have a Chief Digital and Information Office at Trust Board level. The new recruits will be joining a team of 105 staff working across the digital portfolio that is set to grow, with more roles being recruited over the coming year.
The Digital Leadership team roles available are:
Deputy Chief Digital and Information Officer – this role will have responsibility for the entire Digital portfolio on a day to day basis, supporting the move to make digital an integral part of how services are delivered in the Trust.
Head of ICT – this role will be operationally responsible for ensuring IT networks and infrastructure is in place to support the delivery of safe, effective and efficient digital systems and services.
Head of Digital Programmes – this role is responsible for the successful delivery of the Trust’s technology-enabled initiatives, including those in the Digital Strategy.
Kettering General Hospital covers a large part of the Northamptonshire area, with outpatient clinics in Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden, as well as Kettering General itself. The hospital has 600 beds and 17 theatres, employs around 4,000 staff and is one of the largest employers in Northampton.
Andy Callow, the Chief Digital and Information Officer at Kettering Hospital recruited earlier this year, says,

The hospital has committed one third of its capital budget into technology projects this year and next year Andy says there will be an increased training budget to support digital staff to progress their careers.
“We are committed to offering more training for our teams. We’ll be exposing staff to new ways of working and encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning and career progression, for example through online training courses. We’ll also be promoting a culture of sharing so people that attend courses can share their learning with their team.”
“One of the most exciting opportunities next year for senior staff is we will be recommending and supporting people to do a post-graduate course at the NHS Digital Academy, a virtual organisation set up to develop a new generation of digital leaders who can drive the information and technology transformation of the NHS.”
“The NHS Digital Academy, in conjunction with Imperial College London, the University of Edinburgh and Harvard Medical School, provides a year-long, world class, fully accredited learning programme for digital change leaders. This is a highly prestigious course, which is oversubscribed, but the hospital is keen to support staff interested in developing their leadership skills for the internet era.”
