The Recruitment Industry Disability Initiative (RIDI), in partnership with specialist People and Development consultancy Delsion, is hosting a round table in South Wales where business leaders will discuss the relationship between skills, disability inclusion and the future of work.
Attended by the Welsh Government and hosted by the University of South Wales Exchange, the event on the 27th of September will bring together influential stakeholders from organisations including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Federation of Small Businesses and the DVLA.
The Recruitment Industry Disability Initiative (RIDI) is a not for profit organisation working to increase the inclusion of disabled people in the workplace. Based in Wales, Delsion is a Human Resources, Learning & Development and Disability & Inclusion Consultancy. The organisation has previously been recognised by RIDI and the Government’s Disability Confident campaign for its work positioning Swansea as the UK’s first Disability Confident employer city.
Commenting on the event, Julian John, Managing Director at Delsion, said:
“Wales is home to a number of innovative employers that are looking to tap into wider talent pools locally, while many disabled people simultaneously find it hard to secure work due to barriers in the recruitment process. By pooling our collective expertise, we can to join the dots for everyone’s benefit.
“According to data from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), disabled employers outperform all other groups in terms of innovation and professional ambition. However, official data shows that disabled people continue to be significantly underrepresented in the workplace, with separate research from RIDI finding that 85% of disabled people find that their condition has an impact when job-hunting.
“My career background in Human Resources, coupled with my personal experience of being long-term unemployed through disability, led me to create Delsion with the aim of making Wales a leading nation for disabled employability and promote the benefits of engaging with disabled talent.
“Today, rapid technological advancements, the rise of the gig-economy and local initiatives to create a diverse employment base mean that potential opportunities for disabled workers are opening up in line with a wider systemic shift in future employment.
“The calibre of expertise involved with this event means it has the potential to be the most influential discussion around disability and inclusion that Wales has ever seen.”
