HRC Recruitment has hired experienced recruiter Tony Baker to spearhead its new dedicated technology division.

Tony joins the independent recruitment specialist as a divisional manager from Search Consultancy, where he led the technology and transformation division in Glasgow. In a career spanning more than 10 years in the industry, Tony has also held roles at Hays, Tecology Recruitment and Be-IT.

Tony will work across Scotland’s central belt to drive the new division forward, sourcing permanent and contract recruits for companies within the IT sector. HRC Recruitment already has plans to expand the team and harness opportunities with Scotland’s tech SMEs – an area the firm has identified as a significant development opportunity.

A report published by national skills agency Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in October 2019 predicted that Scotland’s technology industry will be one of the fastest to grow over the next decade, with more than 13,000 tech-related job opportunities each year.

Commenting on his new role, Tony Baker said:

“I’m looking forward to leading HRC’s new technology team and establishing our position in the market. The consultancy already has a strong reputation with additional support services like Back in Business, aimed at boosting diversity, and Build your Brand, which focuses on marketing support, meaning clients can expect an agile, full-service approach, which is unique within the Scottish market.

“It’s undoubtedly a challenging time for the sector, but IT will play a major role for many Scottish businesses navigating changes over the next few years. Many businesses will require additional technology talent and expertise, and our bespoke approach to recruitment can support them to grow their workforce. Flexibility will play a major role in our offering.”

Hilary Roberts, chief executive of HRC Recruitment, added:

“Scotland’s IT sector is growing at pace and is predicted to expand by 50% over the next 10 years. We expect the demand for talented candidates to mirror this, and for that reason, we have launched a dedicated technology division, with Tony and his market expertise at the helm. We’re focussed on growing and diversifying our business, and this is the next step in strengthening our presence across Scotland’s recruitment market.”
