Small Business Confidence in Scotland now Higher than UK Average

Confidence among Scotland’s small businesses is now higher than the UK average according to a report from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

It found around half of the 2,458 firms it surveyed UK-wide – including 243 in Scotland – believe their prospects will improve in the next three months compared with 12 per cent predicting deterioration.

The FSB said a drop in spare capacity has lifted recruitment intentions to the highest level recorded since it launched the Voice of Small Business Index survey in the first quarter of 2010.

Its figures suggest a balance of 15 per cent of small businesses expect to add staff in the next three months.

The FSB said its findings also suggest the number of Scottish firms running below capacity also dropped from 52 per cent at the start of the year to 46 per cent in the second quarter.
